FAQ

Questions patients and families often ask.

A few plain-English answers for families considering a child, adult, or older adult neuropsychological evaluation.

What is a neuropsychological evaluation?

It is a structured evaluation of thinking skills, learning, attention, memory, mood, behavior, history, and daily functioning. The goal is to explain cognitive patterns and provide recommendations that can guide next steps.

How long does the appointment take?

Timing depends on the question, age, records, language background, and what information is needed. Many evaluations involve several hours of appointment time, with breaks as needed.

Would an evaluation help my child?

It may help when school, attention, learning, emotional regulation, or support questions remain unclear after routine school or clinical support. An initial inquiry can help clarify fit.

How do we know whether memory changes are normal aging?

Normal aging can involve slower recall or occasional forgetfulness. More concerning changes tend to affect daily routines, independence, judgment, or safety more consistently. Evaluation can help clarify the pattern and what support may be needed.

Can family members be involved?

Yes. With the patient's permission, family input can be helpful for understanding day-to-day changes, care needs, school concerns, and questions the family hopes the evaluation will answer. For children, parent and teacher input may be requested when clinically appropriate.

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance and payment details can vary. Please review Dr. Yang's appointment profile or ask directly before scheduling so you understand fees, superbills, and any out-of-network options.

Can the report support school or medical planning?

When clinically appropriate, recommendations can help families discuss school supports, accommodations, 504 or IEP conversations, medical follow-up, treatment planning, or care needs.

Is email secure?

Email is best for general inquiries only. Please do not include sensitive medical information in online inquiries.
